2026–the year I reclaim my time

Like so many others, I spend too much time on my phone. Chronically online. Looking for the next dopamine kick when everything else feels like too much. I'm painfully aware that my screen time is too high and yet I find it hard to do anything about it.

New Year's resolution: an analogue life

I don't really set myself New Year's resolutions because I know I'm going to break them anyway. But I am making a promise to myself this year: I want to get back the time I'm wasting. Less digital and more analogue. Live as if it were 2006 or something like that. Consume less and create more. And I know I'm not the only one craving this. My digital bubble is full of posts on this topic. Maybe you feel the same way?

That's why I will continue to post very little content this year. I'm cutting back on Instagram, especially because I don't want to keep feeding Meta with my data. I will concentrate on my own platform (this blog) and the newsletter. A slowed-down approach with meaning and in-depth insights into photo sessions. Handwritten texts, no help from AI! My social media presence will shift more into the Fediverse. You can find me onMastodon and Pixelfed – feel free to follow me there!

Ways I'm trying to live more offline:

  • Journaling: writing down thoughts instead of using the Notes app; my notebook is my brain dump, without structure or order, the main thing is to get it out of my head and onto paper; usually just short bullet points, sometimes I work out my texts this way; not regularly, but I always have a notebook within reach if possible
  • Reading: I love books! I take about half an hour every morning to read; target is 26 books in 2026; trying to replace scroll time with reading time
  • Handicrafts: lino printing, carving, braiding, paper making, drawing; the list changes depending on the season, energy level and mood; I always try something new
  • Get out into nature: go for a walk and explore your surroundings in a new way; ride a bike and go camping for a few days; identify plants (possibly collect herbs); simply sit in the sun with your coffee; take your hobbies outside (e.g. carving)
  • Family and Friends: cooking together; playing board games; going for coffee; simply spending time together without a screen
  • Mindfulness: being more aware of my own routine and slowing down; my morning coffee is a little ritual; I no longer see cooking as a burden, but as something I enjoy doing;
